Salsa and Swing Under the Moon
As Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night’s Swing continues next week, they’ll take you on a couple of salsa and swing adventures – including a Kid’s Day! If you loved Jennifer Aniston’s latin flair and salsa moves in “Along Came Polly” and Vanessa Williams’ in “Dance with Me”; or if you are yearning for the jazz and freedom of the Swing Era, the last week of Midsummer Night Swing is just for you.
On July 10, MsNS will give salsa it’s last foray in this year’s dance showcase as Desiree Dicupe teaches the sexy, fun dance form, to the sounds of Mambo Legends Orchestra: Las Reinas de la Salsa as DJ Brian spins. Get ready for a sultry, calorie burning night under the stars! If you really want to get your groove on, Desiree teaches at SalsaNewYork.
Midsummer Night Swing is modernizing swing, giving us a Western Swing Dance lesson by Joe Palmer featuring the Motown and Pop sounds of The Loser Lounge: The King of Pop vs. Prince as the Freedom Dance Party DJs on through the night of July 12! If you wanted to brush up on your swing before hand, or fall in love with it that night and want to follow through later, you can learn all about Joe Palmer and when he offers dance instructions here to get your full fix!
Ready for more? On July 14, you’ll get a bonus night of swing – Big Band style at 7 p.m. and MsNS will feature a Kid’s Day, where your kids can learn Swing, Salsa, Merengue, and Tango at 3 p.m. Rodney Lopez is slated to teach your kiddies all the right moves and can keep doing so (for you!) at DanceManhattan. For the adult portion of the evening, Margaret Batiuchok will teach swing with the Big Band sounds of Harlem Renaissance Quartet as DJ David Graybill spins!
A big thank you to Lincoln Center for hosting this amazing dance party that is the definition of what NYC stands for when it comes to art, diversity and pure entertainment! Keep dancing and have a fantastic summer!!
